Photo book "Urabandai Goshiki-numa Lakes-Lakes in Japan" Introduction
The Lake Goshiki-numa, located in Bandai-Asahi National Park in Fukushima Prefecture, is a miracle of nature formed when Mount Bandai started a phreatic eruption in 1888.
It consists of a large number of lakes and marshes with different colors, such as Bishamon Marsh, Akanuma / Midoro Marsh, which is less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel, and is designated as a "special protected area" that requires strict protection even in national parks. As a result, general access is severely restricted, and underwater photography is impossible without the special permission of the Ministry of the Environment.
Seio Nakamura is one of the few photographers who can take underwater photography with special permission from the Ministry of the Environment in order to pass on this precious natural landscape to future generations. From 1988 to the present, we have been following the seasonal appearance of Goshiki-numa. The beauty of the underwater world that we cannot usually see, such as the light emitted from the bottom of the lake water, the greenery of trees reflected in the water, and the state of the lake bottom that changes with the seasons.
This book contains underwater photographs of the Goshiki-numa lakes and marshes, as well as photographs from the ground that express the scenery seen from the lake surface and the changing seasons. It is a book where you can enjoy the beauty and mystery captured by Mr. Nakamura's unique viewpoint and technology.
At the beginning of the book, a commentary on the history and beauty of the Goshiki-numa lakes and marshes by Professor Yoshitaka Takagai of Fukushima is also posted. We convey the value of this rare natural heritage in terms of both natural science knowledge and artistic photographic expression.
