The Goshiki-numa Lakes Group, located in Bandai-Asahi National Park in Fukushima Prefecture, is a natural miracle formed when Mount Bandai caused a water vapor eruption in 1888.
It consists of a large number of lakes and marshes with different colors, such as Bishamon Marsh, Akanuma and Midoro Marsh, which are less than 10 minutes on foot from the hotel, and is designated as a "special protected area" that requires particularly strict protection in national parks. As a result, public access is strictly restricted, and underwater photography is not possible without a special permission from the Ministry of the Environment.
Masao Nakamura is one of the few photographers who can take underwater photography with special permission from the Ministry of the Environment in order to pass on this precious natural landscape to future generations. From 1988 to the present, we have been following the four seasons of Goshiki-numa. We capture the underwater world that we can not usually see, such as the light emitted from the bottom of the lake, the greenery of the trees reflected in the water, and the state of the lake bottom that changes with each season, with a spectacular beauty.
